Buffé Restaurant LIDO in Riga, Gluten-Free Review
Can you relate?
You read the reviews from gluten-intolerant people who have visited a restaurant and give the place the thumbs up because there are gluten-free options.
But…
Once you’re there yourself, yes… there are gluten-free options but you immediately understand that the contamination-risk is at maximum and the busy staff shows minimal interest. Just shaking their heads like saying “please, help yourself”.
You’re hungry and still have to eat something so after a lot of reading of the ingredient lists you dare to try a dessert.
And then the waiting for the first symptoms of being glutened begins. I bet you’ve been there, done that, right?
I did that mistake at the highly recommended, largest and best-known buffet restaurant chain LIDO in Riga, Latvia. My bad of course. I shouldn’t go hungry to a new place for the first time because I read some positive reviews.
I should take some time and visit it, check it carefully and find out more about it myself BEFORE I decide if it’s safe or not for me as a highly gluten- and wheat starch sensitive person.
LIDO is definitely not safe for me. It’s safe for those being on a trending gluten-free diet voluntarily and for those who can tolerate a certain intake of gluten per day, without experiencing symptoms. But that’s all.
LIDO is absolutely NOT for anyone with glutenintolerance. Even if they have gluten-free options the contamination risks are real, much much higher than “normal”.

The typical LIDO windmill is the landmark of the very family friendly, largest and best-known buffet restaurant chain in Riga, Latvia.
